The Roseville Electric charger rebate

Here's what Roseville Electric lists for its residential Level 2 charger rebate at the time of writing. Programs change, so we confirm the current terms before you buy.

$250 standard rebate, $500 income-qualified

The higher amount is for customers enrolled in Roseville Electric's Electric Rate Assistance or Medical Rate Assistance programs, and it's first come, first served while funds last. One rebate per household per calendar year.

The charger has to meet their specs

New, UL or ETL listed, wall or pedestal mounted, at least 32 amps, with a charging cable of at least 15 feet. Most name-brand hardwired chargers qualify. A basic portable cord plugged into a 240V outlet usually doesn't, so decide before you buy.

A permit is required, and there's a deadline

The install needs a City of Roseville building permit, and the application has to be postmarked within 90 days of purchase (120 days for the income-qualified rebate). We pull the permit and give you the paperwork you need to file.

Charging in a newer vs. an older Roseville home

How much work your install takes depends a lot on when your home was built.

Newer homes in West Roseville. California's green building code has required new single-family homes with a garage to be built "EV-capable" for several years, which means a raceway to the garage and a breaker space in the panel labeled "EV Capable". If your WestPark or Fiddyment Farm home has that label, the install is usually quick and affordable. We'll check the panel and the garage wall before quoting.

1980s and 1990s homes. Much of central and east Roseville was built during the boom years, with panels sized for that era. A 48-amp charger on top of central air, an electric dryer and a pool pump can be too much. A load calculation tells us whether a smaller charger, a load-management device or a panel upgrade is the right answer.

Older homes near downtown. Small services and detached garages are common. A longer run or a subpanel may be needed, and if the panel itself is due for replacement, it's cheaper to do both at once than to come back later.

Can I put the charger in my driveway instead of the garage?

Yes. Outdoor-rated chargers can go on an exterior wall or a pedestal. It usually costs more because of the longer run, and sometimes trenching, and it's still eligible for the rebate if the charger meets the specs.

My panel is full. Can I still get a charger?

Often, yes. Options include a load-management device, tandem breakers where the panel allows them, a subpanel, or a panel upgrade. We'll show you the cheapest safe option first.
